A ten-member team from the Ministry of Education, the National Qualifications Department/Sector Skills Development Agency (NQD/SSDA) of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is visiting Grenada this week on a Study Tour of the National Training Agency of Grenada.  The NQD/SSDA has recognized the need to build the capacity of its officers as it relates to the development and implementation of TVET programmes leading to C/NVQ certification.  The services of the Grenada NTA, it being more advanced in the granting of C/NVQs  was requested to  facilitate the tour. The overall objective of the tour is to examine the systems and procedures used by the NTA of Grenada in relation to best practices in the awarding of CVQs/NVQs.

The Team members who are in Grenada for four days is headed by NQD Director, Kenroy Questelles.  The meetings so far have given an overview of both the SSDA/NQD and the GNTA; examined the procedures for validating  regional occupational standards as well as standards development; the CVQ in schools which was led by CVQ Co-ordinator in the Ministry of Education, Alwyn Fraser; centre approval and capacity building with regards to quality assurance and assessment; and best practices for the implementation and administration of prior learning (APL) and enterprise-based training (EBT).  Other meetings will look at monitoring and evaluation, communications, and the NTA’s Strategic Plan.

The tour includes visits to training institutions such as the T.A Marryshow Community College and NEWLO which are institutions implementing the C/NVQ within their training programmes and to the Westerhall Secondary School which is one of the implementing schools for the CVQ/NVQ.  A courtesy call will also be made to the Ministers of Education and Permanent Secretaries.
